Duties and Responsibilities

- Performs research experiments with appropriate controls under the direct supervision of Principal Investigator.
- Analyzes and interprets data from experiments.
- Maintains overall lab organization including ordering supplies, preparing reagents, monitoring equipment and compliance with safety regulations.
- Trains students and other staff in research protocols and lab rules.
- Attends weekly journal clubs, department seminars and lab meetings.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

Minimum Education: Required: Bachelors Degree Preferred: Masters Degree Specify Degree(s): Biological or physical sciences

Minimum Experience: Required: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience. Preferred: 3-5 years of previous job-related experience.


The department of Microbiology and Immunology is seeking a Research Assistant. Job duties are as follows:

- Ability to analyze and interpret data.
- Solid foundation in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology.
- Experience with techniques in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology.
- Ability to communicate verbally.
- Ability to deal calmly and courteously with people.
- Ability to finish tasks in a timely manner.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and established procedures.
- Ability to maintain accuracy and consistency.
- Ability to work as an effective team member.

Work consists of performing experiments involving molecular biology, bacteriology, cell biology and biochemistry. Will design and carry out experiments, including preparing reagents and solutions, executing experiments, and data interpretation. Will do some ordering of laboratory supplies and overall laboratory organization and maintenance.
