Duties and Responsibilities

Position Summary:
• Working in the Cudahy Library Access Services Department, the assistant will provide services at
the Circulation Desk, open and close the library as necessary, and assist with the supervision of
student workers
• Approximately 15-19 hours a week, with hours to be determined based on availability
• Position starts in late August/early September 2017 and runs through April 2018
• Reports to the Head of Access Services
• Based at the Lake Shore Campus in Rogers Park
• Training in circulation services will be provided
Responsibilities:
• Provide library services at the Cudahy Library circulation desk, including transactions, item
searches, basic reference services, and referrals to other service areas
• Work with the library’s back-end system (Alma) and discovery layer (Primo)
• Open and close Cudahy Library as necessary, and assist with building access and security issues
• Serve as lead assistant on specific shifts, and assist with the supervision of student workers
• Work on Access Services-related projects as needed
• Some evening or weekend hours may be required

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

Currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited Library and Information Science graduate program.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited library and information science graduate program
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of online library discovery and search services
• Ability to learn new software programs
• Ability to work independently
Desired Qualifications:
• Experience providing library or related user-focused services

Certificates/Credentials/Licenses

• Currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited library and information science graduate program

Computer Skills

Familiarity with Microsoft Office
